Admission Requirements
I. Overview
Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) is an open-access, regional comprehensive university within the Minnesota State system. Students applying to the proposed Pre-Licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (PLBSN) program must first meet SMSU’s general admission requirements for undergraduate study.
II. Step One – Admission to the University
These criteria apply to all applicants seeking admission to SMSU, including those intending to enter the PLBSN program.
Minimum University Requirements:
All applicants must first meet all SMSU undergraduate admission standards

Click on the Transfer Student Admission Policy for all admission requirements for domestic, Undergraduate, transfer students.

Students admitted to SMSU are designated Pre-Nursing majors until formally admitted to the PLBSN program.

Admission to SMSU does not constitute admission to the PLBSN program. Students interested in nursing are admitted to SMSU as Pre-Nursing majors and must complete a separate, competitive application to the PLBSN program.
