Policy

Conferring of Degrees

  1. Associate and baccalaureate degrees shall be conferred by the University three times a year. The designated times shall be at the conclusion of the fall, spring and summer semesters.
  2. The “completion of graduation requirements” includes completing the requirements for an approved major, and the Liberal Education Program/Minnesota Transfer Curriculum, and Graduation Requirements, filing a Degree Check form and an Application for Graduation, and paying all financial obligations to Southwest Minnesota State University.
  3. The “Conferring of Degrees” is an official act by the University signifying that the student has completed all graduation requirements and has been recommended for a degree according to his/her curriculum by the faculty.
  4. Commencement is a ceremony during which graduates and spring semester candidates are publicly recognized. The Commencement ceremony shall be held once a year at the conclusion of the spring term.
