Liberal Education Program and Minnesota Transfer Curriculum Distribution
- A minimum of 42 semester credit hours is required to fulfill the Liberal Education Program and Minnesota Transfer Curriculum for graduation.
The Liberal Education Program and Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) requirements for entering students seeking a Bachelor’s degree are as follows:- MnTC Goal 01 - Communication (3 courses, 10 credits)
- MnTC Goal 02 - Critical Thinking (1 course, 3 credits)
- MnTC Goal 03 - Natural Sciences (2 courses with labs, 8 credits)
- MnTC Goal 04 - Mathematical/Logical Reasoning (1 course, 3-5 credits)
- MnTC Goal 05 - History and the Social and Behavioral Sciences (2 courses, 6 credits)
- MnTC Goal 06 - The Humanities and Fine Arts (2 courses, 6 credits)
- MnTC Goal 07 - Human Diversity (1 course, 3 credits)
- MnTC Goal 08 - Global Perspective (1 course, 3-4 credits)
- MnTC Goal 09 - Ethical and Civic Responsibility (1 course, 3 credits)
- MnTC Goal 10 - People and the Environment (1 course, 3 credits)
Note: Where approved, one course can count for two Goal areas. The student must have a total of 42 semester credit hours and a 2.0 GPA for their MnTC to complete the MnTC. See the current Academic Catalog for details.
The following statement applies to transfer students, or students in the Honors Program, for the Liberal Education Program and Minnesota Transfer Curriculum:
Students who have satisfied the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum, who have an AA Degree, or who have a BA or BS degree when they transfer to SMSU, are recognized as having fulfilled the SMSU Liberal Education Program/Minnesota Transfer Curriculum. - Liberal Education Program Graduation Requirements.
