About Health Services

Student Health Services provides free and confidential services, including medical evaluations, for registered students. Located in Room 158 of the Bellows Academic building, a Registered Nurse is available for consultation Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. while classes are in session. 'Walk-ins' are welcome or students may call (507) 537-7202 to leave a confidential message. Medical Providers from a local clinic are available on site Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 p.m.; appointments are appreciated during this formal clinic time. There are fees for laboratory tests, certain medications, some supplies, and sports physicals. Non-prescription medications for minor colds, coughs, aches and pains, and other miscellaneous items are also available at no additional cost. Health Services staff will assist students with off-campus referrals as necessary. All expenses associated with off-campus medical referrals for lab, x-ray, consultations, etc. will be the student’s responsibility for payment.

Student Health Services does not exist for the purpose of replacing the primary care physician, but recognizes the fact that mental and physical health is essential for learning, development, and success as a student. The Student Health Services department is designed to be accessible, convenient, and cost-effective as well as a resource for information concerning health, staying well, and preventing illness.

Health Fee

A health fee is received out of the activity fees each student pays at registration. This amount is necessary for the operation of Student Health Services. There is no charge for an office visit with the nurse or Medical Provider, but there may be a small fee for certain medications, lab tests, or supplies. Again, all off-campus medical referrals and services are at the student’s own expense.

Prolonged Illness

Students are advised to report pertinent medical facts to Health Services so instructors may be notified in cases of prolonged illness. We do not contact instructors for short-term illnesses or provide excuses for missed classes; it is the responsibility of the student to contact the instructors for assignments. Should a student find it necessary to withdraw from classes for medical reasons and they are unable to withdraw in person, they should contact the Registration Office for further details and implementation of the withdrawal..
